A 35-year-old female suspect has been charged following the death of a 61-year-old woman on Monday, said police.
Officers were called to the 700 block of Wellington Avenue around 9 a.m. Monday for a report of a woman being assaulted.
Police found a 61-year-old female with upper body injuries. Paramedics rushed her to hospital in critical condition. Around 3 p.m., police were told she had died from injuries.
An investigation determined the victim had been walking in the morning near Wellington Avenue and Simcoe Street when she met a man and woman, who she knew.
A fight broke out and the suspect threw the victim to the ground, causing the victim to hit her head, said police.
Officers said the suspect then began assaulting the victim on the ground, but was pulled back by the male.
Around 7:40 p.m. Monday, the suspect was arrested near Wellington Avenue and Victor Street.
Police said Cynthia Elaine Thomas of Winnipeg has been charged with manslaughter and failing to comply with a condition of recognizance.
