The province said minimum wage will increase to $10 an hour on Oct. 1, marking a rise of 50 cents per hour.

"By increasing the minimum wage, we are strengthening the purchasing power of minimum-wage earners across the province," said Jennifer Howard, the province's minister of labour.

The minimum wage rate previously increased 50 cents to $9.50 per hour on Oct. 1, 2010.

The province said the new increase in the fall will put Manitoba's level slightly above the average Canadian minimum wage.
