After almost 38 years at CTV Winnipeg, veteran news anchor Sylvia Kuzyk is stepping away from the desk this fall.

“It has been an honour and a privilege to serve the people in our community for these many years," said Kuzyk on Monday. "The time has come, however, for me to embark on a new direction and take time for all of those things I have kept on the back burner for years. I am so grateful to all the viewers who have supported me and helped me to have a rich and rewarding career. I just want to say thank you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me into your lives for so many years.”

"There will never be another Sylvia Kuzyk. She will be greatly missed by her colleagues and our viewers," said Bill Hanson, VP and GM of CTV Winnipeg. "What a wonderful testament to Sylvia's love of our community that despite opportunities to move elsewhere, she decided to remain in Manitoba for her broadcast career. We invite all of our viewers to visit ctvwinnipeg.ca, check out Sylvia's page and send her best wishes."

Some of Sylvia’s many awards and achievements include:

  • The Order of Manitoba
  • Lifetime Achievement Award from the RTNDA
  • YM/YWCA Woman of Distinction Award
  • Broadcast Excellence Award from the Broadcasters Association of Manitoba
  • Toastmasters International Communication and Leadership Award

“To say Sylvia is multi-talented is an understatement," said Karen Mitchell, News Director of CTV Winnipeg. “For more than three decades Sylvia has anchored and produced news, written, researched and hosted documentaries, hosted and produced the daily arts and entertainment segment 'Spotlight' and presented Manitoba's number one weather forecast. She has served the newsroom and the community with her time, energy and enthusiasm.

Sylvia is a true leader and a big part of our newsroom’s success. Working with Sylvia is a joy.”
