Officers have made an arrest after a suspect at Winnipeg's airport was spotted brandishing a knife, said police.

Around 7:15 p.m. on Sunday, police were contacted about a report of a male seen carrying a knife at a ground side entrance to the Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport.

Officers responded and noticed a suspect waving a folding knife in the air, said police.

Officers told the suspect for several minutes to drop the knife, before he eventually complied and was arrested.

Joshua Haerle, 19, from Missouri, U.S., has been charged with possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, said police. He is being held in custody at the remand centre.
