The trial has begun for a man who allegedly assaulted, both physically and sexually, and confined a 17-year-old girl against her will.

A young woman, now 19, lived with Dustin Paxton for five weeks in 2009 and spoke of several violent assaults during that time period, often of miniscule things.

She cannot be named because of her age at the time of the incident, and alleges Paxton choked and punched her.

She also said that she was homeless and addicted to crystal meth although she is now clean, raising her infant daughter.

Paxton was arrested in Edmonton living under an assumed name.

Paxton is also accused of brutally torturing and starving his roommate.

The victim was beaten, mutilated, starved and then dumped off at a Regina hospital in April 2010.

He weighed just 40 kilograms, or 87 pounds. He had been burned, had broken bones and parts of his lips and tongue had been cut off.
