Smoke from forest fires in northern Ontario has prompted hundreds of evacuations from St. Theresa Point First Nation in Manitoba.
In Ontario, crews are working to get a handle on 100 raging forest fires. So far, about 300 evacuees have had to leave the St. Theresa community.
The evacuees are primarily elders, young children and people with medical problems, said officials on Thursday.
"Once you see outside, you could just see the smoke from across the lake," said Chelsey Mason, an evacuee who had to leave the community with her children.
The Manitoba Association of Native Firefighters is coordinating the evacuation effort.
"(It) all depends on the conditions up there and hopefully the wind is going to be in our favour today and possibly a little bit of rain to help with the smoke," said Tim Langevin from the Manitoba Association of Native Firefighters.
Officials said no homes are at risk on the First Nation from the fire.
Evacuees will be staying at hotels in Brandon.
On Monday, 71 people from Berens River were also flown to Winnipeg because of the Ontario forest fires.
About 3,000 people in Ontario have been forced from their homes due to the blazes.
