A small forest fire forced a campground in the Whiteshell to be evacuated Monday.

Fire patrols spotted the blaze just after 11 a.m. Monday morning.

Soon after, people in the Nutimik Lake Campground area were forced to leave, said officials.

Within minutes, the province sent a helicopter and two waterbombers to put out the fire.

Campers were allowed back in by around 1 p.m., said officials.

Fire officials said while this blaze was relatively small, conditions are ripe for forest fires as this is the driest the area has been in 40 years.
