RCMP raided a property near St. Amelie in the RM of Ste. Rose and seized marijuana worth an estimated $2.9 million.

Officers executed a search warrant in the early morning on Aug. 9 and found almost 3,000 marijuana plants. Six 2,000-square-foot greenhouses were found on the property, with two more under construction.

"We're…fairly certain there are links to organized crime. And anytime we can take $3 million and 3,000 marijuana plants out of organized crime, it's a good day for the RCMP in Manitoba," said Const. Miles Hiebert from the RCMP.

Three adult male suspects were arrested at the location. RCMP said Giang Van Nguyen, 47, Son Thanh Le, 48, and Hung Van Le, 44, have all been charged with production of a controlled substance and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.

Police said all three men are from British Columbia.

Neighbours said the men kept to themselves. Most residents in the small community said they had no idea what was going on at the property.

"Our community is a little farm community," said Art Gangnon.

Officers continue to investigate and are working with specialized agencies to clean up the site.
