A 27-year-old man faces numerous charges after officers were confronted by a suspect armed with a samurai sword, said police.

Around 12:15 p.m. on Aug. 8, officers were called to the 500 block of Victor Street in the West End for a report of a man seen going into a basement window.

Police surrounded the residence and announced their presence.

A male suspect came out of the residence armed with a samurai sword and "challenged an officer in an aggressive manner," said police.

Officers commanded the suspect drop the weapon. He complied and was taken into custody.

Kenneth Clifford Campbell, 27, of Winnipeg faces multiple charges, including possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose, assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, possession of a controlled substance and break and enter, said police.

An outstanding warrant was also in effect for Campbell at the time.
