Court documents show the suspect charged for murder for Gina Swanson's death previously had a protection order taken out against him in connection with another case.

On the weekend, officers announced that Schuyler Francis Van Wissen, 26, had been charged with first-degree murder and assault with a weapon for Swanson's death.

Swanson, a 33-year-old single mother, was found bound and stabbed in her home on Edderton Avenue in Winnipeg in May.

Police said the incident may have been a robbery gone wrong.

The suspect's parents live a short distance away from Swanson's home.

Court documents from three years ago show another Manitoba woman feared for her life and applied for a protection order against Van Wissen.

"I am scared of ending up badly hurt (and) in the hospital. I know what he is capable of," stated the woman in documents.

Van Wissen was ordered to stay two city blocks away from the woman, according to court documents. The victim claimed he stalked and harassed her and even kicked her in the stomach while she was pregnant.

Documents also contain statements from the woman about a violent confrontation in 2007.

"He forced himself in my house - (disconnected) my phones so that I couldn't call for help...threw me down the stairs," states the woman.

Van Wissen was arrested in Toronto on Aug. 12 and brought back to Winnipeg where he was charged for Gina Swanson's murder. At the time, he was wanted on a warrant for a separate charge after a man was attacked with a bottle in July.

Swanson's father credits Winnipeg police for their hard work in making an arrest in the death of his daughter.
