The Jets showed off the team's new official jerseys Tuesday morning at a media event in Winnipeg.

The jerseys were unveiled at Winnipeg's 17 Wing Air Force base Tuesday morning.

The jerseys' colours have connections to the historical colours of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Players offered positive feedback at the event Tuesday.

"It's more blue, light blue than I expected but I really like the way it looks," said Eric Fehr.

The jersey also drew positive feedback from those at 17 Wing.

"It's awesome. (I've got) 1,200 hours flying the F-18 and to see it on a professional hockey team jersey - even better," said Lt. Gary Hook.

Getting the look for the jerseys designed and in place progressed quickly by normal NHL standards.

"The normal process of working with the National Hockey League on new jersey concepts normally takes 18 months," said Kevin Cheveldayoff, the Jets' general manager. "This process was condensed to six weeks."

Melissa McKenzie at River City Sports expects the jerseys will be a big seller, especially given the popularity of other recent Jets-related merchandise.

"It's been pretty crazy. I mean at first it was just t-shirts we were getting and then people wanted the hoodies, the souvenirs for their cars and their house," said McKenzie.

The team jerseys, however, aren't expected to hit shelves until October.

RCMP previously seized a number of counterfeit jerseys. Now that the real ones have been announced, it's possible more counterfeit ones could be also be on the way.

"That's a reality and it's unfortunate," said Mark Chipman, chairman of True North Sports & Entertainment.

"I would say to you, though, there are some very distinguishing and not readily apparent features to the real jersey that a counterfeiter wouldn't be able to see or understand," said Chipman.
