Officials are expanding the scope of a walnuts recall over concerns they may be contaminated with a form of E. coli.

A public warning was previously issued on Sept. 1 about certain walnuts.

On Sept. 7, Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) officials expanded the recall and warned the public not to consume certain bulk and prepackaged raw shelled walnut products which may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7.The walnuts were sold at retail from bulk bins.

The CFIA has a full list on its website.

The bulk walnuts listed were imported and distributed in Canada by Johnvince Foods in 25 lb cardboard cases bearing Lot code W1866 and the name Andersen and Sons Shelling, Vina, California, USA, said CFIA officials.

"Consumers who may have purchased unlabelled walnuts from bulk and are unsure if they have the affected product are advised to contact the place of purchase to determine if it is affected by this recall," said the CFIA.
