Winnipeg police have arrested a suspect following the stabbing death of a 15-year-old boy.

An 18-year-old boy was taken into custody on Sept. 14 and charged with second-degree murder.

Around 2:40 a.m. on Sept. 10, officers and emergency crews were called to the area of College Avenue and Aikins Street.

An investigation determined the 15-year-boy and a friend were riding their bikes in the area of Boyd Avenue and Aikins Street when they met another group of males, who they knew.

After exchanging words, a physical confrontation broke out and the 15-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the upper body, said police.

The victim and his friend ran to the area of College and Aikins, where the 15-year-old collapsed. Police and emergency crews responded and the victim was rushed to hospital, but later died.

Officials aren't releasing the name of the boy who died, but CTV News has learned it is Clarky Stevenson.

On Sept. 14, a suspect was taken into custody in the 1300 block of Main Street.

Police said Steven Raymond Johnston, 18, of Winnipeg has been charged with second-degree murder.

Officers continue to investigate.
