True North Sports & Entertainment announced the Winnipeg Jets plan to help disadvantaged kids in the city, following up on what the previous Manitoba Moose Yearling Foundation did.

"Effective immediately, Moose Yearling Foundation will be known as the Winnipeg Jets' True North Foundation," said Mark Chipman from True North.

The announcement was made by both NDP Leader Greg Selinger and Chipman.

"It's about kids that might not otherwise have opportunities to continue their education or to learn from businesses in the community," said Chipman.

The Jets and province said that early next year, core-area kids will hear from community and business leaders in five areas, including sports, science, technology, performing arts and communications.

At an afternoon announcement, the team also rolled out its plans for its single-game ticket system.
