Winnipeg police said a 14-year-old boy faces a charge for second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of another teen.

The arrest is the second one made after Clark Stevenson, 15, died following the Sept. 10 stabbing.

Police said the 15-year-boy and a friend were riding their bikes in the area of Boyd Avenue and Aikins Street when they met another group of males, who they knew. After exchanging words, a physical confrontation broke out and the 15-year-old victim was stabbed multiple times in the upper body, said police.

The victim and his friend ran from the area. Stevenson collapsed near College Avenue and Aikins Street and was rushed to hospital, where he later died.

On Thursday, police said an 18-year-old man had been charged in connection with the death. Police said the victim and the 18-year-old suspect charged for his death were rival gang members.

On Friday, officers announced they had made a second arrest and had taken a 14-year-old suspect into custody.

The homicide unit continues to investigate.
