A Brandon family is terrified after they say a man broke in to their home.

Ernest Racette says he found an intruder in his 11-year-old daughter's bedroom around 5 a.m. Sunday.

"My wife woke up to some noises," explains Racette. "We thought it was my daughter banging around. She came upstairs to check. She found a guy sitting right by her bed."

Racette said he chased the intruder out of his daughter's bedroom and hit him with a chair outside, but the man escaped. His wife phoned police. Brandon police say when officers arrived, they found a suspect in the area.

Brandon police say the man was drunk when he was arrested. Officers say the man thought he was at a friend's place. He spent the night in jail and was released the next day. No charges were laid.

Brandon police did confirm a report of a man entering a home in the area. They say in cases like this, if there's no sign of a break and enter or criminal intent, a charge can't always be laid.

Racette feels the intruder should be charged. "He broke into my house. Who knows, if my wife didn't come up, what would've he done to my daughter?"

Racette says all of his doors were locked that night. He's not sure how the intruder got in through his front door.
