Police have made an arrest in Winnipeg's latest murder investigation.

An 84-year-old woman was found beaten inside a home on Pine Bluff Road in the southeast side of the city on Wednesday, near Niakwa Road.

Officers said the woman had upper body injuries and was rushed to hospital. The woman, Rahima Sacranie, died from injuries. Police said cause of death has been determined to be blunt-force trauma to the upper body.

A 19-year-old suspect, Sahar Sacranie - the victim's granddaughter, has been charged with second-degree murder.

Police are still piecing together what happened. The victim, and a man, woman and their children lived in the home.

"Hopefully it gets solved quickly and they get the comfort they need," said one person who lives nearby.
