One man was taken to hospital after a stabbing outside Earls restaurant on Main Street.

Police were called to the restaurant around 1:30 p.m. Monday. 

An investigation determined a 41-year-old man was approached by a suspect while exiting the restaurant. 

The suspect began physically assaulting the victim. A 20-year-old passerby saw the assault and tried to intervene. 

The suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed the 20-year-old man, said police. An off-duty officer saw the incident and also tried to intervene. The suspect began threatening the officer, who called in additional police and emergency personnel. 

The 20-year-old man was taken to hospital in stable condition. 

Officers located a 43-year-old suspect of no fixed address in the Waterfront Drive and York Avenue area. Christ King Kennedy was arrested and faces two counts of assault with a weapon and assault for his alleged involvement in the incident, said police.
