WINNIPEG - A miner who was injured on the job at a Manitoba mine earlier this month has died.

Vale said in a news release that employee Greg Leason died from the injuries he received while working at its Thompson mine on Oct. 7.

The company says Leason was 51 and had 23 years of service.

His family and co-workers were with him at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg when he died on Wednesday.

Leason was operating a scooptram when it fell into an open area.

He was first taken to hospital in Thompson, then transferred to Winnipeg.

The scene where the accident took place is still sealed off by Vale to allow the company and Manitoba Workplace Safety and Health to investigate.
