A number of suspensions have been handed down following an investigation into a hockey hazing incident involving the Neepawa Natives.

The Manitoba Junior Hockey League announced the suspensions on Tuesday.

Head coach Bryant Perrier has been suspended for two games, while assistant coach Brad Biggers was given five games.

The team's captain and assistant captains each received between three and five-game suspensions and 12 other Natives' players were each suspended for one game.

"It's been real hard on the young fellows playing for our hockey club. They've basically had a cloud over their head for the last three weeks. I think going forward, which is something we want to do today, I would expect there's probably a pretty strong message for the other players in the league," said Dave McIntosh the president of the Neepawa Natives.

League commissioner Kim Davis said the incident happened in late September.

Davis said there is no excuse for this type of behaviour.

"Really, one of the keys to having success in life is to be respectful of yourself and others," said Davis.

The team will also be fined $5,000.

The RCMP are also investigating.
