Two suspects face murder charges after the death of a 41-year-old man on Sagkeeng First Nation on Monday.

Police and emergency services were called around 9:15 a.m. on Oct. 31. Officers located the body of an adult man in a shed. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. Police initially treated the death as suspicious and confirmed Tuesday it was being investigated as a murder.

RCMP identified the victim as Eugene Robert Fontaine, 41.

The initial investigation showed that a social gathering was underway at a residence when an argument broke out, said officers.

An autopsy was carried out in Winnipeg and showed cause of death to be blunt-force trauma.

Nicholas Abraham, 22, and Jonathon Starr, 28, from Sagkeeng were arrested and charged with second-degree murder, said RCMP.

The accused and the victim knew each other, said officers. The incident is not considered gang related.
