WINNIPEG -

Critics say the Manitoba legislature is missing something this fall -- legislation.

The NDP government will wrap up the fall sitting today without having introduced any bills.

The government even moved the sitting up one month from its traditional mid-November start time.

Opposition Tory Leader Hugh McFadyen says he wonders why the government was in such a rush if it has no new laws to propose.

He accuses the government of simply wanting to get in and out of the legislature as quickly as possible.

But Premier Greg Selinger says it was important to have the legislature in session soon after the October 4th election, so that the government could unveil its throne speech.

The speech outlines the government's agenda for the coming year in broad terms.

The legislature will break this afternoon, and is not expected to reconvene until the spring.
