The newly renovated Sinclair Park Community Centre officially opened to the public Friday Morning.

The improved centre now includes a new full-size gymnasium and change rooms, a large multipurpose room, a commercial kitchen, a fully renovated basement and a new parking lot.

The expansion project cost $4.68 million dollars and was funded by all three levels of government.

"I've often said that one of the greatest investments we can ever make for our families and young people is to invest in our community infrastructure," said Mayor Sam Katz in a media release. "I am proud that the City of Winnipeg took a leading role committing over $2 million to make the redevelopment of Sinclair Park in the City's North End a reality."

"This new facility will offer more recreational opportunities for everyone and it'll be a gathering centre where everyone is welcome," said provincial infrastructure minister Steve Ashton in a release.

With renovations, the Sinclair Park Community Centre is now more environmental and energy efficient. It has been given a Power Smart Designation from Manitoba for its highly insulated walls, roof and floors, ventilation heat recovery and demand control ventilation.

The centre is located in the northwest corner of Winnipeg at 490 Sinclair Street.
