A violent carjacking in the North End sent a 22-year-old man to hospital with gunshot wounds in Winnipeg Tuesday night.

Paramedics escorted the man out of a Pacific Avenue home to a waiting ambulance. He was taken to hospital in stable condition with gunshot wounds.

Police taped off the block between Sherbrook and Isabel streets to investigate.

Officers said the male victim and a 24-year-old woman were in a Chevy Silverado truck that was stopped on the front street in the 500 block of Pacific Avenue. About three to five unknown men approached the truck and ordered both people out of the vehicle.

As the two were getting out, one of the suspects pulled out a gun and shots were fired at the male victim, hitting him in the upper and lower body, said police.

The suspects fled in the pickup truck, hitting a parked vehicle, a fire hydrant and a fence. The stolen truck was later found in the rear lane in the 400 block of Pacific Avenue.

Officers continue to investigate and no arrests have been made yet.
