NHL officials say Jets jerseys are among the top sellers in the league, ranking in the top five and rivalling sales of merchandise for teams such as Toronto and Montreal.

At River City Sports in Winnipeg, manager Zak Rubin said jersey sales were extremely busy through the build up to the holidays.

"It's been phenomenal – thousands and thousands of jerseys. It's been one of our top-selling items, for sure," said Rubin.

On game days at MTS Centre, lines inside the Jets store have been long. Officials with True North said jersey sales have surpassed expectations.

"In this store alone and the kiosk we have at the other end of the rink we do between 100 and 150 fifty jersey sales…per game which is an incredible number," said Scott Brown from True North.

Even in Calgary, Jets jerseys are proving popular.

"Both the Flames and Jets are equally popular now," said Robert Kotler from River City Sports in Calgary.

Winnipeggers who have moved to other cities are also snapping up the items.

"I'm visiting from Seattle and I wanted to support the Jets because I'm from Winnipeg," said Angelique Buchannon, who picked up a jersey for herself and one for her husband while visiting in Manitoba.

Prices for the jerseys range between $130 and $300, depending on whether they are replica or pro style and if a buyer wants a specific name and number on the back.

Retailers and True North suspect the huge sales won't last, since 2011 marked the return of the team. But if the team has success in the playoffs, merchandise sales could also see another boost.
