The shooting death of a Winnipeg man in the 600 block of Selkirk Avenue marks a new record for the number of homicides in one year in the city.

Police were called to a house on Selkirk around 5:00 a.m. Saturday after reports of a man being shot. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition, he later died. A woman was also taken to hospital, she is in stable condition.

There were more than ten people in the house when officers got there. The homicide unit is now investigating.

"It's going to take a considerable amount of time to speak with these individuals," explained Const. Natalie Aitken. "Those interviews are ongoing as we speak."

Neighbours said they're fed up with the violence. One man said, "there's three houses…all in a row, all either gang-related or what…I want to get out of here."

The shooting victim's family is being notified of his death. Police are expected to release his name Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
