Suspects used a baseball bat to assault a 44-year-old robbery victim on Thursday, said Winnipeg police.

Officers were called around 3 a.m. to the Ellice Avenue and Maryland Street area.

The victim had been beaten by three suspects and had been forced to hand over cash, said police.

The suspects also led the victim to a convenience store where he was forced to buy them cigarettes.

A clerk noticed the victim's injuries from the beating and called police.

The suspects fled the area.

The victim was taken to hospital with multiple injuries.

Around 3:40 a.m., a suspect was located in the area of the 400 block of Victor Street.

Justin Mark Hall, 23, has been charged with robbery with a weapon, said police.

Two 16-year-old males were also located after vehicles were also broken into following the assault on the 44-year-old man.

The teens face charges multiple charges, including for robbery with a weapon and mischief under $5,000.
