Winnipeg police were called to Sargent Avenue and Simcoe Street around 4:30 p.m. Thursday after reports of a gun being fired.

When officers responded, they found a 17-year-old man who was not shot, but was hit by a vehicle after an attempted robbery.

Police said the victim was confronted by a group of people who tried to take his backpack. There was an altercation that resulted in the teen being shoved into traffic and hit by an eastbound vehicle.

The suspects left the area, said police. The victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition; he has since been upgraded to stable.

Police are asking anyone with information to call investigators at 986-6668 or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
