Winnipeg police are looking for suspects after a victim suffered extensive injuries in an assault and robbery earlier in January.

Around 5 a.m. on Jan. 1, police were called to a laneway between the first 100 block of Albert Street and the rear of a hotel in the 200 block of Notre Dame for a report of an injured male.

The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition.

An investigation determined the victim was previously seen in the area of a hotel within the 300 block of Smith Street around 3 a.m.

Police released details on items similar to those stolen from the victim during the assault and robbery.

A black XL Foot Locker three-quarter-length jacket without a hood was taken, along with black and white Nike Air Jordan shoes.

Officers also said that two people were seen in the area shortly before the victim was located by police.

The first person is described as a male, aboriginal in appearance, in his mid twenties, weighing approximately 300 pounds (136 kg) and wearing black and white clothing.

The second person is described as a female, aboriginal in appearance, in her late twenties.
