Winnipeg police are looking for a suspect who assaulted a transit driver on Wednesday.

Around 3:30 p.m., a bus was in the area of St. Mary's Road and Riel Avenue.

A suspect got on the bus and began verbally harassing passengers.

The driver asked the suspect to stop, but the harassment continued.

While the bus was stopped in the area of Main Street and Broadway, the suspect spit at the driver and then pulled him out of the vehicle and began assaulting him, said police.

The driver managed to get away from the suspect, returned to the bus and contacted police.

The suspect fled the area.

The transit driver was taken to hospital, where he was treated for minor upper body injuries. He was later released from hospital.

Officers hope surveillance video will help them catch the suspect.

Police said the male suspect is described as being in his twenties, about 170 to 180 pounds (77 – 81 kg) about five feet 10 inches tall (178 cm), clean shaven, with black collar-length hair.

Anyone with information is asked to contact investigators at 986-6668, or Crime Stoppers at 786-8477.
