Wednesday morning, the mayor's executive policy committee voted to move up the snowmobile and off-road vehicle ban to November of 2012.

The ban was originally scheduled to begin in January 2014. Previously, city councillors said people needed more time to be educated about it. But opponents said the long-lead time made little sense.

Currently, there are three designated areas where off-road vehicle use is permitted within the city.

The push for a full-city ban began after a man was hit by a snowmobile while walking in Transcona and died in January 2011.

The EPC's proposed changes to put the ban into effect in November must still be approved by city council as a whole.
