Officers were called in after what's believed to be body parts were found inside a Winnipeg dumpster on Monday.

Investigators were on scene in the 100 block of Donald Street, near York Street, for most of the day.

CTV News has learned an employee of a nearby restaurant spotted what looked like two severed hands sticking out of a dumpster. The employee called police.

Several hours later, an officer was seen removing a duffle bag from the scene.

Police wouldn't confirm Monday if body parts were found on scene.

Officers just confirmed that investigators are examining what is being referred to as "items of concern."

"We don't know exactly what we are dealing with right now, but certainly some unique circumstances that we're faced with currently and you know we are investigating it as thoroughly as we can," said Const. Jason Michalyshen from Winnipeg police.
