Winnipeg police have laid charges against four young women after a triple-stabbing in the North End Sunday.

Just after 8 a.m. Sunday, Winnipeg police were called to a break and enter at a home on Polson Avenue in the North End. They found three women with stab wounds. All of the women were sent to hospital and are now in stable condition.

Four women are facing multiple charges including assault with a weapon. All of the women were in their 20s.

Area residents are now concerned for their safety.

"At this point I'm not feeling very safe at all. I'm actually considering moving," said Darrel Coutu, a neighbour to the home that the incident took place in.

A woman who lives across the street from the home where the incident took place said she heard screaming and yelling at around 6 a.m. About two hours later she said she saw a black Jeep Grand Cherokee pull up. She said she saw two men and two women get out of the vehicle, and they were met in the yard by two women from inside the residence. She said the women then got into a fight.

Police said the early-morning brawl was a result of an ongoing dispute between a 21-year-old woman and a 22-year-old woman. When another 21-year-old woman and a 24-year-old woman tried to intervene in the fight, they were also injured, police said.

A neighbour who asked not to be named said two women live in the upper level of the home, while a family lives downstairs, each with children. The neighbour also said the house is known for frequent parties.

Strollers could be seen in front of the property Sunday where the incident took place. Neighbours said they saw officers remove a child from the residence.

"There's hardly any crime in this neighbourhood. It's very quiet. We've got tons of kids living all up and down the street," said Coutu.

Winnipeg police are continuing to investigate.
