A security guard is recovering after being stabbed at a south-end grocery store.

Police said two female suspects were shoplifting at a Safeway at 2155 Pembina Highway around 3 p.m. Tuesday afternoon when they were confronted by the guard.

He was stabbed twice, said police.

The guard was taken to hospital where he was treated and released.

The suspects ran away, but were arrested a short time later.

Police said the suspects had also previously confronted a 24-year-old female in the area of Pembina and Markham Road.

One of the suspects pulled out a knife and tried to stab the victim and rob her of her purse, said police.

The victim was not injured and no property was taken.

Jenny Lee Landry and Tamara Elizabeth Smith, both 25, face a range of charges, including robbery with a weapon, said police.
