Winnipeg police have arrested a 19-year-old man in connection with a stabbing early in the morning Sunday.

Just before 3 a.m. Sunday officers found a 42-year-old man with multiple stab wounds to his upper body laying in the parking lot of a gas station, police said.

The man was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Officers were told that the suspect had just left a nearby convenience store. When the suspect saw the officers he immediately ran away, officers said.

After a foot chase officers caught the suspect.

Awasis John Beardy is now facing multiple charges including robbery with violence and aggravated assault.

Beardy is 19 years old from Garden Hill, Manitoba. He remains in custody at the Winnipeg Remand Centre, police said.
