Dry conditions have led to a number of rural municipalities implementing fire bans in Manitoba.
One of the areas to put a ban into effect is the RM of Rockwood.
On Wednesday, a fire spread to Hans Kjear's garage and boat.
The flames became so high that he feared firefighters wouldn't be able to save his home.
"I'm exceedingly thankful the (fellows) did everything they could," said Kjear. No injuries were reported, but Kjear will have to cover costs for some damage.
Officials in the RM of Rockwood said firefighters in Stonewall, Teulon and Stony Mountain have been run ragged the past two weeks, responding to multiple grass fires in the municipality, along with helping in neighbouring communities.
"If guys are running around doing grass fires, they're not able to respond to house fires. They're not able to respond to car accidents if we're busy doing that," said Jim Campbell, reeve of the RM of Rockwood.
The burn ban in effect in the RM means stubble burning, ditch burning and bonfires are prohibited.
Officials in the Woodlands area told CTV News they are also considering implementing similar fire restrictions.
Officials said it's so dry, even a small fire can quickly become out of control and everyone is being asked to be careful, including avoiding throwing cigarettes out of windows.
"I don't know if people realize but you get a little bit of wind and that dry fuel, it burns like gasoline. You can't run fast enough," said Campbell.
He said at least three structures have been destroyed by fires.
Provincial officials said they're aware of other fire bans in effect in the RMs of Tache, Springfield, Stuartburn, Ste. Anne, Piney and La Broquerie.
Manitoba residents are advised to check with their local RMs if they have questions about whether fire bans are in place in their area.
