Upwards of 30 local fire departments battled grass and brush fires across Manitoba Friday.

Manitoba Conservation said at least 10 of those departments were still active Saturday, fighting brush fires that continued to burn.

Dry conditions and a lack of rain throughout the province are believed to be the cause of the sudden spike in wildfires.

At least one home was lost Friday and a casino was evacuated in the province. There were no reported injuries as off Saturday afternoon.

Manitoba Conservation is asking everyone to respect burn bans and to be careful when disposing of cigarette butts or other smoking materials. Even the use of ATVs can start fires, Manitoba Conservation said.
