A Winnipeg Jets player will stand trial for impaired boating charges this summer.

Dustin Byfuglien was arrested last August on suspicion of boating while impaired in Minnesota.

His lawyer Mitchell Robinson told CTV News that Byfuglien's alcohol level was only 0.03 at the time, well below the legal limit.

"That's like having a beer and a half in your system," said Robinson.

He said his client was stopped half an hour after sunset, because he had no navigational lights on. But even then, you could still see out, said Robinson.

Robinson said his client was willing to accept a charge of operating a watercraft without navigational lights.

But he said the prosecution would not agree and a trial has been set to start on July 23 in Minneapolis.
