RCMP seized thousands of counterfeit goods from Winnipeg retailers this week after a number of raids across the city.

About $70,000 worth of goods were seized including products carrying counterfeit brand names such as Nintendo, John Deere, Hello Kitty, Angry Birds and others.

The RCMP's federal enforcement section said they carried out the raids the week of April 23 and uncovered a number of counterfeit products.

Two stores at The Forks, one at St. Vital Centre and another at Portage Place were searched as part of an investigation into copyright violations.

RCMP said they worked closely with companies that control the trademarks for products like Quicksilver, Xbox, Hasbro, DC Shoes and many others to help identify stores that had been selling fakes.

The fakes ranged in quality from very high to very poor and were all being sold for regular retail prices or higher, RCMP said.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid in the case, RCMP said.
