Nearly 60 per cent of Manitobans are willing to pay more for fair trade goods, according to a new poll.

A new Probe Research Poll revealed Manitobans are supportive of products that pay fair prices to producers in developing countries.

The full results of the poll will be released late Thursday morning as part of a fair trade event hosted by the Manitoba Council for International Cooperation.

The event, Fair Trade Fortnight, runs from May 1 to May 15. The event encourages Canadians to choose items that promote the payment of fair prices to producers in developing countries, protect the environment and strengthen workers' rights.

This year the Winnipeg Folk Festival was recognized as a fair trade event – the festival has served fair trade coffee since 2008 and provided ethically sourced shirts to its volunteers.
