It was a busy Monday morning for fire crews as they attended two North End garage fires.

Damage is estimated at $20,000 following the first blaze on Aikins Street. Flames engulfed the double garage just before 2 a.m. Fire officials said crews had a few early setbacks as they were unable to get water down their lines.

They were also being extra careful after learning there were propane tanks inside the garage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Crews are also cleaning up following a fire at a detached garage on Alfred Avenue. The call came in just before 5 a.m.

They were able to contain the fire inside the building, said officials, but the smoke and flames destroyed much of what was inside. There's no word yet on what sparked the fire.

And a family managed to escape a house fire on Blake Street unharmed Sunday evening. Emergency crews arrived at the home near Logan Avenue around 9 p.m.

Six people managed to get out safely before fire crews arrived. Damage is estimated at $50,000. There's no word yet on what may have caused the fire.
