The province said strong winds and low humidity continue to challenge crews battling wildfires in southeastern Manitoba.

Monday afternoon, officials said firefighting efforts have been successful in combating a blaze that had threatened the community of Badger. Sixteen people, however, remain out of their homes following an evacuation on May 13.

Crews are also responding to a fire approximately 4,100 hectares in size in the RM of Stuartburn south of PTH 201. Control lines are holding, said the province.

Firefighters are also battling a wildfire south of Marchand which is approximately 1,100 in size.

Two water bombers from Minnesota have been deployed to help municipal firefighters and those from Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship.

Investigators continue to work to determine the causes of the wildfires.

Travel restrictions put into place on Monday remain in effect.

The province said more information on travel restrictions is available by contacting local Manitoba Conservation or Water Stewardship offices, or by calling 1-204-345-1444.
