The city's latest plans for a water park have fallen through and now officials are trying to decide what to do with the parcel of land it was slated for.

Canalta had originally planned to build a large water park and hotel on a parcel of the land at The Forks across from the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, which is still under construction. But councillors delayed a decision to build the park when there weren't clear details on what the structure would look like.

Now Mayor Sam Katz says he would like to see the space stay green. Wednesday morning Katz said he would like the gravel parking lot across from the museum turned into a park.

"There is hardly any green space at The Forks," said Katz.

He added the space could be in memory of Izzy Asper, the man who first pushed for the national museum that's now nearing the end of construction.

But Katz added he wasn't going to offer any city money for the project if it were to be developed. He suggested it could be constructed by the community and maintained by officials at The Forks.
