A Winnipeg jury reached a verdict Tuesday afternoon in the manslaughter case for Jeremy Botelho.

The jury found the former Bisons football player not guilty.

He had been on trial for the 2010 death of Kelly Clay, 18.

Botelho admitted during the trial to punching Clay in an incident at the Nor-Villa Hotel bar, but said it was in self-defence.

Clay was rushed to hospital but died from injuries. The Crown had argued Botelho had been picking on Clay all night, before punching him.

The jury's verdict was announced around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Clay's family stormed out of the courtroom after the verdict was read.
